As many of you know I went to Sicily in April this year and haven’t stopped gushing about it since. I traveled to two different areas of the region- the Southern Eastern Sicily that includes Val di Noto and Western Sicily that includes the capital Palermo. You can read many of my Palermo posts here.
Today I am taking you all to Eastern Sicily’s 19th century Palazzo called B&B L’Orangerie. Owned by the very kind hearted, Giovanni Cartia, L’Orangerie is a high quality B&B in the heart of Modica. The small town was always on my list of places to visit in Sicily and has a lot to offer especially if you are into food and culture. If you are looking for sites to tick of a list then probably it is not your cup of tea.
Coming to the B&B, it is situated is on the main road of the town Corso Umberto. This means only a 10 minute straight walk and you are at the steps of the B&B. The interiors are beautiful and tastefully done. A medium sized bed, a small terrace, clean bathroom with fresh towels and toiletries, a reading lamp and a magazine in Italian (enough to challenge my Italian reading skills) was what welcomed me.
It was all very quaint and being in an old Palazzo made it special. The inside of the B&B was cool despite the blistering heat of Sicily outside. So in the evening I prefered being inside and moving out a little late as I was only 5 minutes walking from the town’s main piazza that is the bustle of life.
My mornings were made special thanks to their breakfast spread which was amazing!! Cold cuts, cakes, juices, coffee, bread, jams….you name it! It was a pleasure to dine in L’Orangerie’s breakfast room.
The only downside of the B&B is that at night it gets a little eerie in the stairs leading from the centre. If you are alone, just be careful. What do you think about this charming Palazzo??
How to Reach Modica:
From Catania airport there is an AST bus that takes you to the town in about 2 hours. The bus stop is right outside the airport and is not hard to miss. Another nearest airport to Modica is the Comiso airport but Catania has better connectivity.
