Winter in Rome: Where to Eat and Stay

Winter is a great time to visit Rome. There’s so much you can do and see in the city that time is always short! If you’re planning a trip to Rome during winter remember keep reading the post because I will also be sharing a budget place to stay in Rome. Winter is a great time to visit the city as crowds are less, so the usually overflowing restaurants and hotels are tourist free. This means you can savour both Rome and the Roman cuisine at your own pace. There are plenty of choices on where you should eat and stay in Rome. Here I’ve curated a list of the finest spots to eat in the Eternal city if you’re on a medium budget. Hope you enjoy the list and try these places next time you’re in Rome!

Winter in Rome: Where to Eat and Stay

1. Ristorante Santa Lucia: Summer or Winter Ristorante Santa Lucia is a dream! Do you remember the movie Eat Pray Love where Julia Roberts dined with a big group of locals in Rome??! Well that was in this place! Ristorante Santa Lucia! Although I’m not a fan of the movie as it has way too many stereotypes, I think Santa Lucia is both great for tourists and locals. The food is excellent and the service even more fabulous. You’ll notice that even a simple plate of bruschette will be so much more delicious! With a minimalist decor, the place will enthrall you.

Address: Largo Febo, 12.

2. Ristorante Regina: Just at the corner of The Termini station in Rome is Ristorante Regina. It is a family run old school styled restaurant with a no frills service attitude. I highly recommend you to eat here next time you’re in Rome. The food is not expensive and the service is not laid back either. I recommend trying their cacio e pepe pasta and different types of artichokes. Ristorante Regina has one of the best tiramisu I’ve had in Rome. (Closed Sunday)

Address: Via dei Mille, 46.

3. Trapizzino Trilussa: Maybe you’ve read about Trapizzino (small sandwich) in this post of mine so sparing all the love here I’ll recommend visiting Trapizzino for a quick snack option. Of course you can sit and enjoy your trapizzini with a glass of wine but I recommend enjoying it on the go. Highly recommend their polpetta al sugo (meatballs). The Trapizzino chain is going strong and is now also in Rome’s Trastevere neighborhood, Mercato Centrale in Termini and even in Milan.

Address: Piazza Trilussa, 46.

4. Osteria Grappolo d’Oro: There are very good places to eat near Campo de’ Fiori but not everyone knows them. If you’re looking for great service with a touch of local wines and delicious Roman cuisine, visit Grappolo d’Oro! The restaurant is a great place to enjoy a dinner in Rome. It is right in the middle of the tourist area in Rome yet retains it’s charm and authenticity. The chefs and entire team is very kind and hospitable. And as is the case in most Italian restaurants, the exquisite presentation of the simplest of things blew my mind!! Great restaurant to pick if you’re at a medium budget.

Address Piazza della Cancelleria 80.

5. Open Baladin Roma: I know you’re in Italy and probably thinking why I’m suggesting you to try a beer! Well beers in Italy are underrated. Open Baladin Rome is a great place to try beer in Rome. If you’re not a wine person, Open Baladin has an excellent brewery with a range of craft beer options. I first tried Open in Turin and was equally impressed by their Roman outlet. They have an amazing choice of Italian beer at reasonable prices.

Address: Via degli specchi, 6

Awesome tips! Funny thing is, to me Italy and beer have always been mutually exclusive. Then again, other than cherry beer, I’ve never developed a taste for it, and even that cherry beer is debatable, meaning I’ll drink it when it’s offered, but I won’t go out of my way to find it.
Having said that, I can’t imagine a better place than Rome this time of year.
