I didn’t realize it was so easy to see the Amalfi Coast if you stayed in the city of Salerno. This was a great suggestion given by a local friend. Salerno is an excellent choice if you want to visit the Amalfi Coast without splurging on an expensive choice of accommodation. It is beautiful, cost effective, relaxing and has a more local vibe.
How to visit the Amalfi Coast from Salerno
Salerno is also lesser known compared to other towns in the area. The fact that Amalfi Coast is so simple to visit from Salerno makes it a practical base. Ferries from Salerno go to the Amalfi Coast almost every hour in the summer months (May-September)
Easy and Simple
From Salerno’s Concordia port, there are ferries that go to Positano, Ravello, Cetara, Minori, Amalfi, Atrani. Companies such as Positano Jet Ferries, TravelMar, NLG, Direct Ferries offer many diverse timing throughout the day for travelers to see Amalfi’s stunning coastline.
Depending on where you want to go, a trip from Salerno to anywhere in the Amalfi Coast is about 30-50 minutes. One side would cost you anywhere from EUR 9-18 but these prices could vary now.
Travelers Tips
- If you’re planning on doing a day trip to the Amalfi, going early always has its advantages. I’d suggest leaving in the first ferry of the morning to make the most of your day. The earliest ferry usually starts at 8 am.
- Make sure to get a seat on the right side of the deck when you’re going from Salerno for best views!
- If you don’t wish to prebook, you can always visit the booking counter at the port in Salerno and buy from the counter directly. If you’re in doubt about anything simply ask the locals, they love to help!
- The summer months can get very tiring so don’t forget to carry a bottle of water and some medicine if you’re seasick.
- Make sure to know the timings of the last ferry back to Salerno. You don’t want to miss coming back to base. Also, I highly recommend taking the last ferry to enjoy the sunset hours.
Enjoy the photos from the ferry below!
I also recommend pre-booking your ticket online from GetYourGuide which also offers a pickup service here.
