And let us not remember Italy the less regardfully, because, in every fragment of her fallen Temples, and every stone of her deserted palaces and prisons, she helps to inculcate the lesson that the wheel of Time is rolling for an end, and that the world is, in all great essentials, better, gentler, more forbearing, and more hopeful, as it rolls.

June 22, 2020 at 2:35 amWhat a beautiful post, Ishita! I’ve always loved the quote by Erica Jong and I think there’s a lot of truth to it. You know how critic of Italy I am sometimes, but among the good sides of my country I definitely list this “permission of being human”, which I don’t find in many other countries.
Loving the quote of Wallis Wilde as well, I didn’t know it! Thanks for sharing!

June 9, 2020 at 3:07 pmOhh, how much I love this selection! <3 Such truths. I have three favourites which I will post on my blog and link to you, if this is okay. Especially this one which made me almost cry right now, so true it is: "What is the fatal charm of Italy? What do we find there that can be found nowhere else? I believe it is a certain permission to be human, which other places, other countries, lost long ago." Erica Jong nailed it. Thank you for this, Ishita!!
